Building Solutions was originally formed under the name Burrell Wilkinson in 1980. Just as our name has evolved from Burrell Wilkinson, to Railbase, and finally Building Solutions, so has the focus of our business.
Originally we had an interest in residential property and saved many quality homes from demolition and relocated them in the up-and-coming suburb of Mt Victoria. A period of business in scrap metal recovery led finally to our current business in commercial development and construction. Building Solutions have now constructed, remodelled, restored, removed, repaired, moved, designed and leased quality structures all over Wellington.
Throughout the early 1980s Burrell Wilkinson saw the potential of commercial property in the old, run down market buildings on Blair Street, and in doing so led the first redevelopment of the Courtenay Place Quarter. Re-strengthening and bright, funky new paint jobs encouraged people and business to the area, gave the buildings and district a new lease of life, and became the start of the urban regeneration of Wellington.
Building Solutions’ utilisation of existing structures was taken to the extreme when its construction company, RB Steel Ltd, won the contract to move the Museum Hotel 250m along a major Wellington thoroughfare.
The
Museum Hotel is now an iconic structure situated within the cultural heart of Wellington.
